I have unsettling news, and I’m very saddened by it. I recently ordered a framed print (one of mine) from my POD (print on demand) provider. (I have decided not to mention the company by name.) I must say the purchased item was beautifully packaged, and arrived with no damage: in perfect condition. A very nice matting and framing job as well. However, the quality of the print itself was terrible! Blurry. Too high contrast: darker areas show as solid black, which I don’t use in my drawings. Detail was lost. Totally unacceptable!
I have had no trouble with prints ordered from this company in the past; they’ve all been very well done. Pen and ink reproduction has to be crystal clear, and up until this last print, they’ve been pretty much perfect. I had absolutely no qualms about using them and indeed, trusting/recommending them as my print-on-demand provider!
I cannot in good faith continue to use them as my POD provider. If I can’t rest assured that the quality of prints of my artwork will be excellent, I can’t trust that customers who might purchase prints through this company will be getting what they should be getting. I won’t subject my customers to unacceptable quality and the hassle of returning their purchase(s). You deserve better!
It totally defeats the purpose of using a POD provider if you can’t trust the quality of prints they produce. And that DOES seem to be a problem with this business model, unfortunately.
So, I removed my art from that company’s website, and removed all mention of them from my own website. So far, I haven’t had trouble with the quality of reproductions from Zazzle, but art prints are not available there… just greeting cards, posters, and such-like.
At present, I am working with a local printer so I can inspect every print before shipment to be sure reproduction quality is excellent. Hopefully, I will be able to offer art prints for sale in the near future. Any developments will be announced here on the blog.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause! Thanks for your patience!
