Winter Carousel Horse

Background
Carved in the highly realistic manner known as the Philadelphia style. “Winter” is a type of animal known as a “stander”- a stationary animal with at least three feet touching the carousel platform. The powerful upright muscular neck, spirited head with open mouth, and smartly lifted front leg was a favorite stance, and in typical style, is heavily carved. These showy animals were usually showcased on the outside row of a carousel.
