Background

I have always been captivated by carousel horses, especially those carved in the highly realistic manner known as the “Philadelphia” style. Summer is a type of animal known as a “stander”- a stationary animal with at least three feet touching the carousel platform. The deeply arched neck and tucked head was a favorite stance, and typical, especially of the animals on the outside row of a carousel.
