Spring Carousel Horse

Background
Carved in the highly realistic manner known as the Philadelphia style, Spring is a type of carousel horse known as a “jumper”- an animal designed to have all four feet up off the carousel platform, which moves up and down as the carousel turns. It is interesting to note that after the advent of the electrical overhead drive, which made this movement possible, most carousel manufacturers opted to keep stationery animals on the outside rows, and placed “jumpers” on the inside rows.
