Spotted Lily

Artist Comments

A contour line technique is used almost exclusively in this drawing. Exploring the petals’ surfaces became an almost mesmerizing process. The technique is a mixture of visualizing the “foundation” of the petal (the ripples, turnings, folds, etc.), as well as the more obvious “decorative” aspects (the veins, spots, water droplets). The technique also compliments the extreme close-up, abstracted composition of the piece.

Materials used: Pigma Micron pens, india iink and dip pens on 300 lb. hot press Fabriano watercolor paper. Size of original: 8-1/4″ X 5-1/2″.
