Ink on paper
Price: $300.00 USD
Peonies fascinate me. They come in so many varieties; I can't choose a favorite. Where I live, peony season is just too short, and rainy weather ruins the delicate petals very quickly. This old-fashioned variety with it's very heavy full flowers, and (you'll have to take my word for it) heady-spicy scent takes me back to visits to my grandmother's garden in June.
Again, depicting of all of those petals in pen and ink is an irresistible challenge. Techniques used in this drawing are a combination of contour lines and cross-hatching. I usually prefer to show subjects as part of a scene rather than as studies without context…thus the edge-to-edge ink work.
Materials used: Pigma Micron pens, india ink and dip pens on Strathmore 500 plate bristol.
